Playing With Snow Inside

At our last meeting before the holiday the girls had a great time playing with snow indoors.  First we created snow women.  We split the girls into two groups and asked them to pick a "stander."  Once the stander was chosen we gave them two rolls of toilet paper and a hat, mittens and buttons that we made out of felt.  They then had to create a snow women out of their materials.  They had so much fun and made some very creative snow women.

After we were done making the girls into snow women we turned the tables on our junior leader.  The girls had a blast making her into a snow woman.

Next we had a "snowball fight."  We split the girls into two more groups and gave them equal amounts of pom poms.  We put our two large plastic bowls in the middle of the two groups.  The girls were asked to get as many pom poms as possible in their bowls.  We talked about winning, losing, being honest and fair and what a good sport is.  At the end of the game the girls ended up with the same amount of pom poms in their bowls - so everyone won!

We ended the meeting with a great snack and Christmas music dance party.  Dance parties are our thing now.  We are all great dancers.

We are going to dive into our Earth and Sky book at the next meeting.  Can't wait!  Have a great vacation everyone and see you all soon.

Cookie Decorating Party

We had such a great time at our cookie decorating party.  Thank you Cookie Doodlez Confections (http://www.cookiedoodlez.com/cookiedoodlez.com/Home.html)! Tricia dropped off a big box of yummy cookies, frosting and sprinkles for our girls.

We talked about the meaning of Christmas and why it is far more fun to give then receive.  We also wrapped our "super secret Christmas projects" so they could go under our Christmas trees.

Now that Christmas is over - our super secret Christmas projects were homemade rice warmers.  The girls filled their rice warmers with rice, lavender and rose buds.  They then sewed the opening close themselves and wrapped them for Christmas.  Moms, Dads, Aunts and Grandmas (I think I got everyone) - just put your new rice warmer in the microwave for one minute and 30 seconds.  It will stay warm for a long time and when it starts to cool off just put it back in for another 30 - 45 seconds.  They are so nice to have on such cold nights!

November 8th Meeting

Last week we went over our Daisy Petals with the group.  I was shocked at how much the girls have remembered from last year.  We are going to do activities with the petals throughout the year.  Each Daisy Petal has a special meaning and they are:
Honest and Fair
Friendly and Helpful
Considerate and Caring
Courageous and Strong
Responsible For What I Say and Do
Respect Myself and Others
Respect Authority
Use Resources Wisely
Make The World A Better Place
Be A Sister To Every Girl Scout
The girls had a hard time understanding "be a sister to every Girl Scout" last year.  This year they all explained to me what that meant.  They also told us that they look out for each other on the playground and in class.

We started both of our journeys last week.  We talked about some of our favorite places to visit all over the United States and created a drawing/collage of our best family vacation.  We will finish the vacation project at the next meeting and start caring for our very own troop plant!

Our Founder's Birthday and the Halloween Dance Party

Today was our 2nd Girl Scout meeting and we accomplished so much while having a blast.  We worked on our Girl Scout Promise and started our Daisy petal review.  Today the girls talked about being honest and fair.  We also talked about the founder of Girl Scouts - Juliette Gordon Low.  She loved working with the Girl Scouts, had a lot of pets and traveled all over the world.  I introduced the girls to a good friend of mine named Sierra.  Sierra is a Cadette in the Girls Scouts and she will be working with our troop when she can with our projects.  The girls adore her already and she had a great time tonight.  After our discussion we had a Halloween snack and a costume dance party.  We ended the meeting with the Girl Scout handshake.

Amy Sload from Princess Party, LLC donated gift bags to all of the girls in honor of Juliette Gordon Low's birthday (October 31st).  The girls LOVED them!  Her website can be found online at www.royalprincessparty.com

I learned a number of new dance moves today.  This Girl Scout is showing us all how to break dance.

Enjoying all of the party favors in our gift bags.

Our First 2012 Meeting

Our first meeting was fantastic!  We were all very excited to see each other again and we talked about all of the fun things we are going to be doing this year with our two new journeys.  I am going to ask the girls to lead their own journey this year.  I'm going to give them different options each week and they will be able to pick their own activities throughout the year.  To finish the meeting we colored in Halloween masks.
